Class tuition does not include a pass to the show.  That needs to be purchased separately.

Friday August 25th

8:00 am-12:00 pm
Basic Spencerian

This class will teach the basics of Spencerian script.  The student will need to bring an oblique nib holder.  Nibs and ink will be supplied by Michael.  For those without a nib holder, plastic or custom wooden nib holders can be purchased at the show.

Spencerian Flourishing Techniques

• Tips and Techniques for sketching on-the- go with a few essential tools and your sketchbook.

• Fill your pages with a series of explorations in pen and ink, pencil and watercolors.

• Unleash the power of your fountain pen.

• Explore drawing and simple watercolor techniques with step-by- step exercises to guide you.

Get answers to questions about what goes into a travel journal.

Combine lettering and visuals within a page layout.

Record your memories and observations on your journey.

SUPPLIES:

You may have a preference to your own sketchbook and supplies and are welcome to bring them. Besides the supplies that you bring, note that some are included with the workshop and some will be provided for your use to borrow.

o SKETCHBOOK of your choice. Select a sketchbook with a paper that takes multi-media, suitable for watercolor and pen and ink. (A Drawing Pad will be included)
o FOUNTAIN PEN with water-soluble black ink (included)
o Sakura PIGMA MICRON PEN, waterproof black, no. 02 (included)
o PENCIL & ERASER
o Small set of WATERCOLORS (provided to borrow)
o WATER BRUSH, Fill the plastic barrel of this portable brush with water and paint anywhere. (provided)
o Optional: Watercolor Brush, round. No.6
o A few COLORED PENCILS or WATERCOLOR PENCILS
o GLUE STICK (provided)
o Small CRAFT SCISSOR (provided)
o Few PAPER TOWELS
o Optional: hand held pencil sharpener

Touchdown/Snorkel Fountain Pen Repair

Description
To provide information and hands-on experience to perform the repair of Sheaffer Touchdown/Snorkel and similar filling fountain pens.  Basic Pen Repair is
pre-requisite for this class.

Expectations and Goals
At the end of the course participants will be able to open, clean, remove and replace the sac, o-rings, gaskets and
adjust the snorkel tube in the Sheaffer Touchdown and Snorkel fountain pens.

Class size will be limited to 20
Required Materials

A Sheaffer Snorkel filling fountain pen – Touchdown filling fountain pen is optional.
Section pliers
Exacto knife
Small sharp scissors
Shellac

Instructors will provide o-rings, gaskets and rod for cleaning the snorkel tube, rods for installing the gaskets and
scraping tools to clean sac protector tubes.

Tuition: $50.  If you pre-register and pay for both Vacumatic Repair and Touchdown/Snorkel Repair, the cost is $40 for each course.

Vacumatic Fountain Pen Repair

Description
To provide information and hands-on experience to perform the repair of Parker and similar filling fountain pens.  Basic Pen Repair is pre-requisite for this class.

Expectations and Goals
At the end of the course participants will be able to open, clean, remove and replace a diaphragm and adjust ink flow in a Parker Vacumatic fountain pen.

Class size will be limited to 20
Required Materials

A Parker Vacumatic filling fountain pen (51, Duofold, Vacumatic)
Section pliers
Exacto knife
Small sharp scissors
Vacumatic filler unit removal tool
Shellac

Instructors will provide standard sized diaphragm

Saturday August 26th

Beginners’ Guide to Beautiful Italic Handwriting

Does your handwriting need a makeover? This class will introduce you to cursive Italic writing with a flat nib. Born during the Renaissance, this handwriting style is making a comeback for its beauty, speed and elegance. Bring a 1.1mm nib or smaller in a calligraphy fountain pen or a fountain pen with the edges filed flat for line variation, and a pencil.

Bookmaking

In this class you will build your own book to pen your stories or care for the stories of your pens and will have time to begin your writing. This is special edition artist book designed for the SF International Pen Conference 2017 by Virginia Woodruff, book artist in Rochester, Minnesota. In addition, you will be creating a small book of your own design.
